Tender Buttons
2017
Curated by Alfredo Aracil and Cristina Ramos; with myself and artist Fran Meana
SALÓN, Madrid
‘Tender Buttons’ departs from the idea of reading as labour, a working process through which the roles of curator and artist become synonymous. The formal scheme of the performance is thus born from two different readings of a single chapter of ‘Tender Buttons’ (written by Gertrude Stein in 1912), and from the intrinsic elements of the act of
reading: intonation and rhythm. Likewise, considering the processes of the exhibition itself, the wall piece visually translates and describes the collaboration between the participants by arranging various elements in a diagram that characterises the very process of their interactions in an abstracted and obscured way.
